After being traded to the New York Mets, there’s news that the former Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta could be extending his future with the new team. Meanwhile, despite Opening Day not that far away, the Boston Red Sox are still exploring options for Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes.
Let’s check out these updates.
Freddy Peralta Tipped for $112,000,000 Deal
Freddy Peralta will become a free agent after the 2026 season. The Brewers traded him and Tobias Myers to the Mets in exchange for Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat this offseason.
The Mets are reportedly looking to extend Peralta. According to Will Sammon, the right-hander is projected to sign a four-year, $112 million contract extension.
Peralta is coming off his career-best season in 2025. He led the National League withn 17 wins, while posting a career high ERA of 2.70 in 33 starts, the most he has made in a season.
His past working relationship with Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns is another reason why the extension makes sense. In 2019, Stearns worked in the Brewers front office, who brought Peralta from the Seattle Mariners at the age of just 19.
“This is someone who, first and foremost, is a really good person,” Stearns said of Peralta. “He meshes well with his teammates, with his organization. He emerged as a really quality leader in the clubhouse and with the Brewers, and he’s constantly getting better and I had a front-row seat for that during his development.”
Red Sox Remain Top Fit for Isaac Paredes
Since early this offseason, the Red Sox have been in search of a quality infielder after notable departures of Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers last year. Amid their search, the Astros’ Isaac Paredes has emerged as the best option even after acquiring Caleb Durbin from the Brewers last month via trade.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the two parties have once started conversations concerning a trade involving Paredes.
Paredes’ career is on the rise, and he solves the Red Sox’s issue at the hot corner after Bregman opted out of his three-year, $120 million contract to become free agent and sign with the Chicago Cubs.
It remains to be seen if the Astros is able to strike a deal for Paredes with the Red Sox.
