The Houston Astros have their eyes on a veteran free agent who is coming off a disappointing season with the reigning World Series champions. Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays are being linked to a Colorado Rockies reliever.
Let’s get into the details.
Astros Circle World Series Champ Amid Free Agency Twist
Michael Conforto remains unsigned following his underwhelming season with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year. The 32-year-old outfielder was brought in as a mainstay, but his production fell too short to earn consistent playing time on the championship roster. After he slashed career-low .199/.305/.333 with 12 home runs in 138 regular-season games, the Dodgers left him off the postseason roster.
Conforto is a former All-Star and could use a different scenery for the 2026 season. Comes in the Astros, who are reportedly eyeing the veteran. Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reported that the Astros have inquired about Conforto as part of their offseason plans.
The Astros’ interest has to do with their need to add a left-handed-hitting outfielder this offseason. Their interest has reignited after their Isaac Paredes trade with the Boston Red Sox didn’t go through.
Houston can add Conforto on a low-risk minor league deal with a modest salary that includes an invite to Spring Training.
Blue Jays Linked to Rising Arm Seth Halvorsen
Damon Sharbyani of Just Baseball named three Colorado Rockies relievers the Blue Jays should go after. Among these, Seth Halvorsen stands out.
It’s always a welcome bullpen addition when a guy can throw as hard as Halvorsen does, averaging 100 MPH on his four-seamer. The same pitch produced a 27.2% whiff rate and when contacted, it generated an average exit velocity of 90.7 MPH, resulting in .302 batting average. His secondary pitches, splitter and slider, have induced whiff rates between 28% to 35%.
The Blue Jays have a need in the bullpen. They have two Rule 5 guys, out of options Tommy Nance, with the likes of Brendon Little, Braydon Fisher, and Mason Fluharty, expected to be key contributors in 2026. An addition of an arm like Seth Halvorsen may not elevate their bullpen by much, but assuming he could do much better in the conditions at Toronto than they were in Colorado, a bet can be made.
