“Grounds For Retirement” – Mets Ace Freddy Peralta Under Fire From Fans After Dismal Show Allowing 10 Runs Vs Phillies

New York Mets ace Freddy Peralta was taken to the cleaners by the Philadelphia Phillies offense in game 2 of the three-game series at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday. Peralta was removed after just 2.2 innings. The Dominican gave up ten runs on ten hits, striking out two and walking one in his short stint on the mound Saturday night.

The Phillies won the game 15-3, tying the series at 1-1 after New York had taken the opener 6-4 on Friday night. Peralta appeared disoriented early and could not recover as the Philadelphia offense began to read his game plan, racking up hits and setting the tone early.

Fans reacted to Peralta’s disappointing outing against the Phillies, with many criticizing him and voicing concerns about his future as a big-league pitcher.

After consistently posting solid numbers for the Brewers in recent seasons, the Mets traded for Peralta in the offseason, acquiring him alongside Tobias Myers in exchange for Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.

The Dominican started on opening day, giving up two home runs to the Pirates, but still came away with the win. Now, he is 5-6 on the season, and questions have started to mount after his disastrous outing in Philadelphia last night.

Mets Manager Backs Freddy Peralta Despite the Disastrous Outing

After the blowout loss, while Peralta reflected on what went wrong, manager Carlos Mendoza continued to support the Dominican and praised his pitching skills. Mendoza also expressed confidence that Peralta is a self-assured player who will recover from this tough outing.

“This is a guy, when you look at his track record, he’s been one of the best pitchers in the game. He’s going through a little bit of a rough stretch here, but if somebody is able to bounce back after bad outings, it’s a guy like Freddy. He is a competitor. He is a guy that is going to come back the next day and look for ways to get better and improve. That is what we will do,” Mendoza said in the postgame interview.

Peralta has a 4.83 ERA, 83 strikeouts, and a 1.39 WHIP through 16 starts this season. The 30-year-old Dominican will make his next start in the series finale against the Chicago Cubs at home at Citi Field on Thursday.
