Since making his big league debut in 2019, Luis Arraez has established himself as one of the most unique hitters in baseball. Although he does not boast stunning power, the Venezuelan has a superb ability to put the ball in play and is extremely tough to strike out.
With an incredible .316 career batting average, Arraez has three All-Star selections, two Silver Slugger awards, and three batting titles to his name.
After entering free agency at the end of the 2025 season, Arraez parted ways with his former team, the San Diego Padres, to sign a one-year, $12 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.
Featuring on the San Francisco Giants’ edition of MLB Network’s “30 Clubs, 30 Camps” on Thursday, Luis Arraez revealed the secret that helps him maintain such an elite level of consistency when it comes to putting the ball in play.
“Be simple, man. Be simple. I just try to put the ball in play. I don’t try to do too much,” Arraez said (0:33).
“If I try to do too much, maybe I strike out more. But, I don’t want to strike out, I just want to put the ball in play, and try to see a lot of pitches to hold my hitting behind me. I just go out there and enjoy,” he added.
Former Minnesota Twins Slugger Explains How Luis Arraez Can Help Bring Out The Best In Other Giants Superstars
On February 2’s episode of “Baseball Today,” former Minnesota Twins slugger Trevor Plouffe explained how Luis Arraez’s presence in the Giants’ lineup can help elevate the performances of other stars, such as Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman.
“I hope they end up putting him at the leadoff position. If you can get him up there, in the first at-bat, he’s seeing five, six pitches,” Plouffe said (13:45).
“Just pi**ing the pitcher off right away, then you can turn it over to Devers, Adames, and Chap. There is something to that dynamic. How quantifiable is it? I don’t know. I think he works well at the top of this lineup,” he added.
Luis Arraez finished the 2025 season with a .292 batting average, 8 home runs, and 61 RBIs.
