The Seattle Mariners enjoyed a superb 2025 campaign. Winning the regular season with a 90-72 record, they won the AL West for the first time since 2001, before making it all the way to the ALCS. They were within one game of reaching the World Series for the first time in franchise history, but lost out to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Looking to build on last year’s success, the Mariners are reportedly looking to bolster their infield in what remains of the offseason. Free agents, Luis Arraez and Paul Goldschmidt, have been linked with a move to T-Mobile Park.
On Wednesday’s episode of “Hot Stove,” former Mariners second baseman Harold Reynolds revealed who he thinks is the better fit for his former team.
“I’ll take Luis Arraez. I just he’s going to impact my team (Seattle Mariners) a little bit different, at this point in time,” Reynolds said.
“Although, Goldy put up more numbers than I thought, but 146 games to put up 10 home runs out of Goldschmidt, that’s not what I’m looking for, for the team that I would need him to impact,” he added.
Reynolds Explained Why He Thinks Luis Arraez Fits The Seattle Mariners Well
On the same episode, Reynolds explained why the Mariners could do well with Luis Arraez’s services, especially now that Jorge Polanco has moved to the New York Mets.
“I started thinking about (Arraez moving to) Seattle. You lost (Jorge) Polanco, and you kind of got an opening for him to be the guy that can do that for you,” Reynolds said (1:29).
“They go through some stretches where they have some swing and miss in that team. Having watched him work, listened to the impact other players said he had on their team, he reinforces the importance of putting the ball in play,” he added.
Luis Arraez finished the 2025 season with a .292 batting average, eight home runs, and 61 RBIs. Paul Goldschmidt, meanwhile, batted .274 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs.
