Jazz Chisholm Jr. came up big for the Yankees in Game 2 against the Guardians at Progressive Field on Tuesday, crushing a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning, which proved to be enough for the visitors, who sealed the series with a 3-2 win. The Bahamian finished the game 1 for 3 on the night with one walk.
Before hitting the crucial solo shot, Jazz was booed by the Guardians fans and also met with ‘overrated’ chants as he walked up to the plate from the deck. In his post-game interview, reflecting on the chants, the Bahamian said he kind of loved the atmosphere inside the stadium and added that his slow trot around the bases was a response to the chants.
“I love it, kind of. I feel like those were the loudest chants we heard all day. It was great. Yeah, it was really for the fans,” Chisholm said.
With the win, the Yankees improved their overall record to 40-26 for the campaign, tying the TB Rays for the top spot in the AL East with a .606 winning percentage. The Bombers are now 6-4 in their last ten games.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Crushed the Homer With Aaron Judge’s Miracle Bat
After the ‘overrated’ chants erupted during his fifth-inning at-bat, Chisholm Jr. gave in to the pressure and struck out on a fastball from Slade Cecconi. As Jazz headed back to the visiting dugout, he immediately noticed Aaron Judge’s bat and decided to use it next.
Three innings later, the Bahamian used that same bat to hit a go-ahead home run, silencing the crowd at Progressive Field. This homer was the second in three days that Chisholm hit with Judge’s bat.
His earlier home run came on Sunday against the Red Sox, when he borrowed Judge’s bat and hit a three-run shot in the eighth inning, helping the Yankees secure a 6-1 victory in the Bronx.
