“Blatantly False” – Red Sox Exec Goes Scorched Earth On Marcelo Mayer To Diamondbacks Trade Rumors

Craig Breslow, the Boston Red Sox’s chief baseball officer, has been a focal point of discussion since the organization dismissed manager Alex Cora on April 25. Since that move, the team has generated many compelling rumors and news stories that have caught the attention of the baseball community, especially as the team continues to struggle this season.

Recently, a widespread rumor connected rising second baseman Marcelo Mayer to the organization, with multiple unverified sources claiming Boston traded the 23-year-old infielder to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Red Sox’s analyst for the Pesky Report, Matthew Crory, clarified the situation by sharing quotes from different stakeholders in a social media post on X.

In the post, Crory mentioned what Boston Globe’s senior beat writer for the ballclub, Alex Speier, wrote about both teams being baffled by the rumors about Mayer. He also noted the response to a question put to Breslow about whether the trade had actually happened.

“There’s some things that you see, and you’re like, ‘OK, that is not accurate, but I at least understand where it came from.’ And then there are things that are just blatantly false and don’t deserve a ton of attention, and this falls into that category,” Breslow responded to Mayer’s trade rumors.

Baseball Analyst Pitches Red Sox 2B Marcelo Mayer Trade For D-Backs 2B Ketel Marte

Fansided.com senior writer Cody Williams has been closely covering the latest trade rumors in the league. With the deadline more than a month and a half away, Williams proposed a hypothetical trade involving Mayer and the D-Backs 2B Ketel Marte, which, according to the writer, could temporarily save Breslow’s job amid widespread criticism.

The proposed trade deal could send Mayer and two pitching prospects to Arizona in exchange for switch-hitting talent Marte.

“Breslow and the Red Sox are at odds right now. The former is trying to save his job after an exceptionally flawed roster build has led to the team now sitting nine games under .500. And while the woeful American League still leaves Boston in position to contend for a postseason berth, the fact of the matter is that it doesn’t look like a group good enough to make any noise in the playoffs, which was the expectation entering the season,” wrote Williams.

The struggling Red Sox face challenges as mid-season approaches. They are currently at the bottom of the AL East, 11.5 games behind division leaders Tampa Bay Rays. The Sox are in the middle of a three-game series with the Rays and lost the opener 3-1 on Monday night.
