Fans heavily criticized Phillies catcher JT Realmuto for a base-running blunder in the ninth inning that effectively ended the game and allowed the Dodgers to even the three-game series at one game apiece on Tuesday night. The viral moment occurred in the bottom of the ninth, with runners on second and third, one out, and the Phillies down 2-1.
The home side had a great opportunity not only to level the game but also to win it right at the death and close out the series, but Realmuto’s base-running error led to the Dodgers getting the runners out at second and third, resulting in a game-ending double play.

Fans were quick to share their reactions to the viral moment from the game, with many calling out Realmuto’s blunder.
“This is like a Top 10 dumbest play in baseball history. This should be replayed forever,” one fan commented.
Realmuto ended the game 1-for-4 as a two-run blast by Max Muncy and a seven-strikeout outing by Justin Wrobleski propelled the Dodgers to a thrilling win.
What Did JT Realmuto Say About the Game-Ending Error?
Blaming himself, Realmuto admitted during the post-game interview in Philadelphia that it was a bad base-running mistake and that he had to be better ahead of the series finale on Wednesday.
“Yeah, it was just a bad baserunning play, really. We were going on seeing it through there. And once Crawford gets in the rundown, I’m on third base. There’s no reason for me to go back to second, just a lack of judgment. I can’t make two outs on that play. And I just got to stay in scoring position. No, I just thought it was just a lapse in judgment; I thought Crawford could get out of the rundown for some reason, and the chances of that are so small, you just can’t take a chance there, making two outs on one play,” Realmuto said.
The visitors will start Eric Lauer in the series finale on Wednesday, and he will face veteran and Philly ace Aaron Nola, who has largely struggled in his starts this campaign.
