The defending national champions, the LSU Tigers, will not be part of this year’s tournament. The eight-time champions lost to the Auburn Tigers in the second round of the SEC tournament, finishing with a disappointing 30-28 overall record.
Their only chance to qualify for the NCAA championship was to win the conference tournament, but this seemed unlikely given their inconsistent regular-season performance, which saw them finish as the 14th seed in the conference standings.
The frustrations with an early exit from the conference tournament were on full display after a LSU fan got into an unnecessary altercation with stadium staff following the heartbreaking season-ending loss to Auburn in Hoover, Alabama.
Fans were quick to notice the viral moment between the security official and a baseball dad supporting the incumbent national champions, and they shared their reactions to it on social media.
“Typical entitled LSU fans. They have past championships doesn’t that cop know?” one fan commented.
“This gives rage monster Sark situation. Let the staff do their f*****g job man. If they ask you to do something, do it. Quit acting like a child and playing victim when you’re upset,” another fan commented.
“I will never understand the wild passion that people have for college baseball. It’s mostly a collection of insurance and jewelry salesmen with maybe one MLB prospect per game. It’s such a joke to be so passionate about a bunch of f*****g nobodies. I’d watch MiLB instead,” yet another fan commented.
Other fans kept criticizing the baseball dad for showing a hostile attitude when a staff member asked him to leave the stadium. Since the conference tournament schedule includes 3-4 games in a day, management needs to clear the stands quickly before the next group of fans arrives.
“Dude is out of control! The security was correct! In a heated exchange NEVER let a person get behind you & out of site!,” one fan commented.
“Work part-time security at college baseball games. It’s every baseball dad after their team loses in regionals. They don’t want to leave the stadium. Just trying to clear for next game. Bus parking lot has plenty of room,” another fan commented.
“Why can’t they leave the stadium and meet their kid at the bus on the way out? Why should these workers have to hang around while they wait in the stadium? Some people are so entitled,” yet another fan commented.
LSU Rallies Behind Coach Jay Johnson to Deliver Next Season
Jay Johnson is a successful coach, and the Tigers have a championship-level program. That doesn’t justify what happened in 2026; it only makes it more confusing. LSU should never perform this poorly in the modern era. But currently, it seems like a minor setback. All signs indicate the Tigers will bounce back to their usual excellence in 2027.
Johnson appeared somber after the loss to Auburn, but there was also a hint of readiness. He wasn’t just upset about the results; he was troubled by what his baseball program did this season. Johnson doesn’t make excuses. He’s motivated by doing the work.
His track record shows he wins wherever he coaches. His two championship teams in 2023 and 2025 speak to his talent and coaching skills, as fans and analysts alike will be hoping for the Tigers to bounce back on every front next year.
