“Men Don’t Be Pigs”;”Sexual Harassment For Sure” – Fans React After ‘Inappropriate’ Text To Female Worker Causes Tigers Triple-A Manager Firing

The Detroit Tigers fired Triple-A manager Gabe Alvarez on Tuesday after inappropriate details were found out. Alvarez sent a text message to a female colleague, which he claimed was a “lighthearted joke.”

However, in a statement released to ESPN, Alvarez immediately regretted the decision as the message was no reflection of his values. He also clarified that he reached out to make his intentions known.

“I never intended to cause discomfort or offense, and I regret that the message created this situation,” Alvarez said. “This was an isolated incident and not reflective of my long-standing record of professionalism, respect for colleagues, and conduct over the course of my career.”

After the said message was made aware to the organization’s HR department, Alvarez was handed a pink slip due to “violation of a club policy.”

This bizarre firing leaves fans making jokes about the nature of losing a job.

“Men don’t be pigs challenge,” one fan wrote.

“”joke” and it’s just sexual harassment for sure,” another said.

“have you ever noticed that women shouldn’t be involved in men’s pro sports in any capacity,” one fan suggested.

“this org is a pr nightmare,” one fan added.

“Not a good 24 hours for the Tigers fans,” another added.

“It was definitely Max Clark saying some wild stuff but they threw Alvarez under the bus,” one fan commented.

“Yea just go ahead and end the season already. What a God awful last few days,” one fan wrote.

Tigers Party to Such Sexual Misconduct Incidents in Past

Earlier in April, former assistant general manager Sam Menzin, who resigned that month, reportedly sent inappropriate photos to multiple female employees within the Tigers organization.

Another report this year follows Tigers’ owner Ilitch Sports and Entertainment, where eight employees were accused of engaging in misconduct towards women.

As for Alvarez, the latest firing ends his tenure at Detroit after he first joined in 2022. He was named Eastern League Manager of the Year in 2023, when his coached Erie SeaWolves won the league title.

Last season, Alvarez was promoted to take over as manager for Triple-A Toledo. Though he had no prior record of engaging in such conduct towards women, the organization’s harassment policy results in automatic termination.
