The Los Angeles Dodgers’ triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma City Comets, executed a remarkable double play in the seventh inning against the Round Rock Express on Sunday. Outfielder Jack Suwinski sprinted to a fly ball in left field, sliding to attempt a scoop catch just above the ground.
The ball slipped out of his glove but was quickly caught by infielder Noah Miller, who threw immediately to first baseman James Tibbs III. This quick relay caught the runner off guard, ending the inning with an exciting double play.
Baseball fans were in awe after witnessing the inning-ending double play and shared their reactions on social media.
“I’d sure like it if you guys at OKC would put out a monthly Noah Miller highlight reel. Unreal D,” one fan commented.
“3rd baseman has a damn cannon,” another fan commented.
“Wow!” yet another fan commented.
The Comets began the series finale strongly, leading early and winning 7-3 against Round Rock at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. OKC scored two runs early, with an RBI single by Alek Thomas and a sacrifice fly by Jack Suwinski. They added another in the second, while Round Rock scored in the third and fifth.
The Comets responded with an RBI single from Ryan Fitzgerald and a balk that allowed Suwinski to score, making it 5-2. Trevor Hauver homered for the visitors, but Hyeseong Kim’s two-run single in the seventh sealed the win. The visitors only got two hits afterward.
Despite Winning, the Dodgers’ Triple-A Affiliate Lost the Series to Round Rock
The Comets finished their six-game home series against Round Rock with a win, but did not win the overall series. Despite losing 4-2 in the series, they hold a 35-27 record this season.
The team can find some positives amidst the disappointing loss, including Hyeseong Kim, recently demoted from the Dodgers, providing strong at-bats, utility player Tommy Edman making good progress in his rehab, and the bullpen delivering quality starts.
The Comets will now hit the road to play a six-game interleague series against the Charlotte Knights, starting at 5:05 p.m. CT on Tuesday at Truist Field. The Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and are currently competing in the International League.
