Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing has performed well offensively, but his work behind the plate has drawn more attention this season. So far, he has faced criticism multiple times for losing his temper and making unnecessary comments toward opponents.
On Monday night, during a game against the Rockies, Rushing’s tag in the tenth inning, after the runner had been declared safe, led to a brief altercation with Rockies CF Cole Carrigg. Rushing reacted to something Carrigg said while dusting himself off, sparking a minor confrontation that players and umpires quickly resolved.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to the game’s viral moment, with many vilifying Rushing for his aggressive play.
Dalton Rushing Turned Down Any Speculations Regarding Any Ill-Intention On The Play
In the post-game interview, Rushing clarified his stance on the play at home in the tenth against Carrigg, stating he didn’t mean any harm and that it was a natural play, tagging a runner in hopes of getting him out.
“I think it was the competitive nature of the game. You’re making a play on the ball, take it the wrong way. I didn’t mean any harm by the tag or the way I reacted to the ball,” Rushing said.
Rushing became the hero for the home side with his walk-off hit in the 11th inning, which took the Dodgers to a thrilling 8-7 win in the series opener last night.
