A highly visible interaction occurred between Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing and skipper Dave Roberts on Saturday. The incident happened during the top of the second innings in the Dodgers game against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
Roberts entered the field with the team trainer because they feared Rushing was hit on the face by the ball. However, the ball didn’t hit him, and Rushing felt the medical visit was unnecessary.
The visibly frustrated Rushing repeatedly waved off Roberts as the skipper approached him. The catcher also shook his head, making clear he was angry about being checked on.
Dodgers fans on social media didn’t appreciate Rushing’s actions. The catcher had already built a negative reception among MLB fans due to multiple reasons. The latest incident only fueled the fire.

The intense caution for Rushing from the Dodgers dugout was due to his history with head injuries. The catcher had entered the MLB’s strict concussion protocol five days prior after a foul hit squarely on his face mask during the game against the Minnesota Twins.
Moreover, Rushing had suffered severe concussion during the 2023 season after he took a batter’s backswing to the head.
Dalton Rushing Impressed in Dodgers’ 15–3 Win Against Padres
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing hit a solo homer in the team’s 15-3 win over the San Diego Padres, their heated rivals, on Saturday. The Dodgers had the lost Game 1, 7-1, on Friday before the stunning win in Game 2.
Mookie Betts and Kyle Tucker also homered for the Dodgers. Betts went one-for-five with a three-run homer, while Tucker went three-for-five with a two-run homer. All three Dodgers players homered in the top of the sixth inning.
Rushing performed poorly in Game 1, going 0-for-3. His hitless streak dated back to Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Dodger Stadium.
Moreover, Rushing’s celebration after his home run silenced any rumors about issues with Shohei Ohtani. When Rushing retured to the Dodgers dugout after homer, Ohtani was the first to congragulate him.
The duo lacked chemistry in the Dodgers’ series finale against the Twins on Thursday when Ohtani was the starting pitcher. Rushing showed diffidence in Ohtani’s ABS challenges in the game, but replays showed the two-way phenom was right.
