Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., teammates for seven years, experienced everything from advancing through the minors together to leading the Blue Jays to a World Series appearance last year.
Their camaraderie in Toronto endured until 2025, when Bichette became a free agent and signed a $126 million, three-year deal with the Mets. Now, with the Mets visiting Toronto, the two shared a heartfelt reunion. In an interview before Monday’s series opener, Bichette reflected on his friendship with Guerrero Jr.
“It will be good. I mean, we went through it all together. The one goal we had together we didn’t accomplish it. I’ve seen him at his lowest. He’s seen me at mine. And vice versa at our highest. From teammates as kids to the big leagues,” Bichette said.
Furthermore, the Mets infielder reflected on Guerrero Jr.’s ongoing struggles at the plate this season.
“I know he’s not doing what he’s capable of. But, I mean, you guys have heard me talk about him enough. And every single year he always ends up doing something that makes you guys remind him. So, it reminds you guys of how good he is. Baseball is tough and he’s one of the best in the world,” Bichette said.
The Blue Jays won the series opener last night, 2-1, with Guerrero Jr. going 1 for 4 and Bichette going hitless in a game dominated by the bullpens on both sides.
What Was Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s Heartfelt Gesture Toward Bo Bichette During the Series Opener?
Ahead of his first at-bat since returning to Toronto after moving to New York, Bichette was greeted warmly by Blue Jays fans. The infielder, fighting back tears, stood on deck, soaking in the warm reception and raising his hands in gratitude.
At this moment, Guerrero Jr., at first base, signaled to Bichette to tip his helmet in thanks to the fans. This emotional gesture between the former teammates touched fans and sportscasters alike.
