University of Connecticut star Paige Bueckers is expected to declare for the 2025 WNBA Draft at the end of the season. The draft is scheduled for April 2025, and Bueckers is widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick.
There had been speculation about whether the 6-foot guard would enter this year’s draft or return to UConn for another season to chase an NCAA title.

Bueckers Confirms Pro Plans
Bueckers put any doubts to rest following UConn’s game against Tennessee when asked if she still planned to go pro at the end of the season.

Bueckers’ decision signals the end of her three-year college career, during which she became one of the most dominant players in women’s basketball.
There had been rumors that the Edina, Minnesota, native might stay in college for another year, especially after missing the 2023-24 season due to an ACL injury. Another year at UConn could have given her a better chance at an NCAA title, increased her NIL earnings, and positioned her for a potential selection by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2026.
However, Bueckers appears ready to forgo that opportunity based on her latest comments.
The Los Angeles Sparks, who hold the No. 2 pick, will likely miss out on Bueckers. Instead, ESPN projects the Dallas Wings as the favorite to select her at No. 1 overall.
Bueckers’ NCAA Title Hopes Still Alive
Despite confirming her pro plans, Bueckers still has a realistic shot at winning an NCAA title before leaving UConn.
Although the Huskies fell to Tennessee 80-76 on Feb. 6, 2025, they lead the Big East with a 21-3 record. They are currently ranked No. 5 in ESPN’s national rankings, trailing Texas, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and UCLA.
Bueckers has been instrumental in UConn’s success this season, averaging 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game across 22 games.
