The Cavinder twins produced stellar performances but ultimately failed to give Miami the crucial win. Haley led the way for the Canes with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, 4-of-8 from behind the arc, and 3-of-4 at the free-throw line. She also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and added a team-high seven assists, one steal, and one block.
Hanna also produced a solid performance, with four points, six rebounds, and six assists.
While the ‘Canes failed to beat their in-state rivals, first-year coach Tricia Cullop remains proud of the team’s efforts, stressing how they remained united and motivated despite their record in ACC play.
“I’m extremely proud of the effort. Tthe effort’s there,” Cullop said. “It comes down to a stop here and a made basket there. In both games [vs. N.C. State and FSU] we had a shot. Unfortunately, the shot didn’t go down in both instances. But it didn’t come down to just that shot,” she continued.
Following the loss, Miami dropped to 13-12 overall and 3-11 in ACC play. The ‘Canes are clinging to the 15th place in the conference standings with four games remaining. Only the top 15 of the 18 ACC teams qualify for the conference tournament, but Cullop believes the team can overcome this tough task.

“We’re doing everything we can to try to get in,” she said. “For some of our players, it’s their last year playing, and I hope for them we can get in. But we’re going to have to win some games to get there. I know this group’s up for the task. We’re just going to have to finish it.”
Miami’s next game is against No. 1 Notre Dame in Miami on Thursday.
