Richmond Spiders standout Maggie Doogan and Nebraska Cornhuskers star Britt Prince recently clashed in an elimination game. On Wednesday, March 18, Doogan and the rest of coach Aaron Roussell’s Spiders squad were pitted against coach Amy Williams’ Nebraska Cornhuskers for their First Four game of the 2026 March Madness on neutral grounds.
During the game’s broadcast, play-by-play commentators Jenn Hildreth and Kelly Gramlich revealed a similarity between Doogan and Prince despite being foes on the national stage. It was said that both Doogan and Prince were coached by their mothers, Chrissie Doogan and Ann Prince, respectively, in high school in the hopes of making a splash in college hoops, which they did.
“ If you want a high-IQ basketball player, well, coach them, alright? That’s the situation we have going on here. We’ve got Maggie Doogan, who played for her mom, Chrissie Doogan. Chrissie, by the way, was a fabulous player in her own right at La Salle. But she coached Maggie. They won some state championships in high school together, and then Britt Prince for Nebraska also played for her mom at Elkhorn High School,” Hildreth said.
“They won four state championships together, and the head coach there. I’m sure there’s a lot of nerves for both moms as they look on here, but it’s really kind of a unique situation, Kelly, isn’t it? That you’ve got this mother-daughter coaching duo on both sides,” she continued.
Prince and Doogan competed on the grandest stage of college basketball this year. Doogan and the Spiders have churned out a record of 26-7 (15-3 A-10) heading into this year’s Big Dance, while Prince and her Nebraska-based program have produced an overall record of 18-12 (7-11 Big Ten).
The Nebraska Cornhuskers Dominate The Richmond Spiders By 19 Points
Unfortunately for Chrissie and Maggie Doogan, the Richmond Spiders lost to the Nebraska Cornhuskers by 19 points, 75-56.
This eliminates the Spiders from the national postseason, while Nebraska moves on to the first round of the 2026 March Madness. But both Maggie Doogan and Britt Prince led their teams in scoring in their First Four matchup.
