Paige Bueckers achieved another major milestone in her UConn Huskies career, securing her spot in program history. The Huskies’ star guard became the 12th player in school history to reach 2,000 career points, doing so in just the second quarter of Sunday’s game against Seton Hall.
While UConn dominated from start to finish, Bueckers’ historic achievement stood out as the highlight of the night.

Geno Auriemma on Paige Bueckers’ Milestone, Injuries
Bueckers needed just six points to reach the milestone and wasted no time getting there. She scored early in the second quarter with a smooth mid-range jumper, cementing her place in UConn’s record books.
By halftime, she already had 12 points, contributing to a massive 56-16 Huskies lead. It was arguably the team’s best first-half performance this season.
During a halftime interview on SNY, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma reflected on Bueckers’ accomplishment.
“I know what she’s been through, how many times she’s been, you know, dealt a bad hand,” Auriemma said. “She had a lot of adversity during her whole college career, starting with, you know, COVID her freshman year.
“So I know the points are a source of accomplishment for her, but I think us winning and us moving on, and us having a magical year, are probably more important to her than anything else.”
UConn’s dominant first half saw strong performances from other key players. Freshman Sarah Strong recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Azzi Fudd added 15 points.
The game also marked the return of Aubrey Griffin, who received a standing ovation at Gampel Pavilion after missing time due to an ACL injury.
UConn’s First Home Game in 2025
Sunday’s matchup against Seton Hall was UConn’s first home game of the new year, and the Huskies fed off the energy from their home crowd. The atmosphere at Gampel Pavilion was electric as fans celebrated both Bueckers’ milestone and the team’s dominant performance.
Auriemma acknowledged the team’s impressive showing in the first half.
“I think if you combine how well we played defensively and how that translated into our offense, yeah, I would agree that’s about as complete a first half as we’ve played,” he said.
“You know, it’s good to be home on our home court. We haven’t been here since, I think, the Holy Cross game back in 2024. So it’s just fun to watch them play, because they look like they’re having a great time out there.”
Bueckers continued her strong play in the second half, finishing with her 13th 20-point game of the season. She was one rebound shy of a double-double, ending with nine boards, a team-high five assists, and two steals.

While she struggled from beyond the arc, making just one of four attempts, she shot an efficient 8-for-13 from the field and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
With her milestone secured and UConn cruising to an 83-52 victory, Bueckers further solidified her status as one of the best players in the country. As she continues her final season at UConn, all eyes remain on the Huskies’ leader and her pursuit of more success.
