The No. 5 UConn Huskies, led by the legendary Geno Auriemma, clinched their fifth straight regular-season Big East title by defeating the Creighton Blue Jays Thursday night. This was also their 12th straight since the American Athletic Conference days and their 17th in 20 years.
Auriemma shared his thought process behind his tactics following the Huskies’ 72-53 victory.

Geno Auriemma Says Huskies’ Pressure Against Creighton Paid Off
UConn Coach Geno Auriemma said the team had to apply pressure, especially in the second quarter, to secure the conference title. The Huskies coach also praised the impact of Aubrey Griffin and KK Arnold in the win.
“I thought when we got some pressure on them, they got a little sped up—you know, things got a little bit fast,” the coach explained. “I thought when KK and when Aubrey came in, I think it had a big effect.”
The Huskies coach went on to praise Creighton’s experience, adding they had to disturb their rhythm to get the win.
“They don’t turn it over a lot because they are an experienced team. They are a veteran team, and they handle the ball well.
Auriemma continued, “But you know, they play with such a rhythm that, you know, our whole objective was just to disrupt their rhythm, and I thought it was obviously the turning point in the game.”
