“She’s Carrying the Program”: Fans Hail Sarah Strong As UConn Star Sweeps 2 Major Big East Honors

Sarah Strong just capped a magnificent regular season, earning a couple of individual accolades that set her apart as the best player in the Big East in 2025-26. Strong was named the Big East’s Player and Defensive Player of the Year.

Fans online didn’t waste any time going to social media to congratulate the Huskies standout for her successful season.

“She is carrying that program. She carried a super senior last year and will carry the team again this year. She’s a beast,” wrote one fan.

“She is. And she’s much much more! Way to Go Sarah,” celebrated another person.

“Well Earned, Well Deserved Sarah,” claimed another person.

“That’s a statement season. Congrats to Sarah Strong — Player + DPOY is wild. Big East hoops stays stacked,” said another individual.

Another fan just couldn’t get over how dominant Geno Auriemma’s Huskies are.

“UConn women’s basketball dominates the Big East postseason awards:POY, DPOY: Sarah Strong*, FOY, 6th Woman: Blanca Quinonez, COY: Geno Auriemma, First team: Sarah Strong*, Azzi Fudd*, KK Arnold Second team: Blanca Quinonez, Defensive team: Sarah Strong, KK Arnold. *unanimous,” wrote one joyful fan.

Praise for Sarah Strong’s season was all over.

    “Theee goat🐐BIG RAHHG,” said someone.

However, a few fans disagreed with the assignment of the awards.

“One of those should have been Azzi’s,” said one person.

How Does Geno Auriemma Get Sarah Strong Going?

Apparently, the way to motivate Sarah Strong to produce a great performance is to annoy her a little bit. That’s more or less what coach Geno Auriemma told the press a little over a month ago.

According to Auriemma, it seems Strong overthinks what he tells her, and he uses that to their advantage. He said:

“Playing against a really good team. Accusing her of being lackadaisical. She takes great pride in thinking that everything I do has a purpose to it, when you question that it pi**es her off.”

It seems to be working perfectly, as the UConn Huskies remain undefeated and Strong is averaging 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, going into the postseason.
