Over the years, the UConn Huskies have been like a factory that produces legends. Geno Auriemma’s basketball program has done wonders in the last 40 years or so. Ever since Geno took the reins of the Huskies in 1985, he has shown that he is in it for the long haul and is ambitious for success beyond measure.
Auriemma not only became the longest-serving head coach in the history of women’s college basketball but also enjoyed tenfold success. On top of that, he developed some of the greatest basketball players to grace the court, such as Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Paige Bueckers, and now Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong.
It’s a packed list. So whenever a question is raised about the Top 3 players in UConn history, it is tough to arrive at an answer. Multiple players have done more than enough in their careers to earn that top spot in the Huskies’ legacy. Recently, one of the greatest ever, Diana Taurasi, was asked about her Top 3. Her answer was anything but common. But again, one might not be able to deny.
Malika Andrews asked DT who her Top 3 dogs in UConn History. Diana Taurasi answered:
“Oh, the top three dogs. I like that. I’m going to say Swin Cash. Probably was the top dog. The way she played. She was relentless on the boards. The way she ran the court. Jen Rizzotti, to me, was the ultimate husky with the knee pads. And my third dog is going to be… I’m going to go with… That’s tough, but I like it. I’m going to go with Maya Moore. I was going with like dog like mentality.”
Fans React to Diana Taurasi Picking Her Top 3 from UConn Huskies History
Fans online were divided on whether to agree with Taurasi or share their own picks. The number of players who have led UConn over the years and how they have always had some of the strongest mentalities make it very difficult to pick only one answer.
“Tuff,” one fan said.
“Love this!!!” another agreed.
“Rizzotti is a great one!” one fan appreciated the mention of an underrated UConn star.
“Jenn was awesome!!! Maya the best! And Swin and good!” one fan commented.
“No way Rizzoti is better than Paige. Especially since Paige is the only one to win NPOY as a freshman…,” one fan disagreed.
“My picks are D, Maya and Paige” another chose.
“Paige?” one fan wondered.
