Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks are gearing up for an important stretch to close the season, but the coach didn’t forget about three former Gamecocks overseas. Tiffany Mitchell, Mikiah Herbert Herrigan and Destiny Littleton were in Israel amid the Middle Eastern conflict starting.
The coach announced the intention of a plan to help get the players “home.” She asked for prayers from fans in the Saturday X post.
“Please pray for our (Gamecocks) (Tiffany Mitchell) (Mikiah Herbert Harrigan) (Destiny Littleton) who are in a war zone in Israel!! We are working a plan to get home. Let us pray for our loved ones to return home safely asap! Thank you in advance. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾”
Mitchell played for the Gamecocks from 2012 through the 2015-16 season. Harrigan played for the Gamecocks from 2016 through the 2019-20 season. Meanwhile, Littleton played for the organization from 2020 through the 2021-22 season.
Mitchell and Harrigan went to the WNBA. Mitchell’s last action was with the Seattle Storm, while Harrigan’s was with the Phoenix Mercury.
Dawn Staley Gears Up For Regular-Season Finale Amid Israel Concerns
While her thoughts are undoubtedly with the former South Carolina Gamecocks overseas, the basketball season hasn’t ended yet. Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks have one last game in the regular season against the ranked Kentucky Wildcats.
The two teams will face off on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST. The Wildcats, ranked 16th in the country, are 18-10 and 9-6 in a conference with plenty of heavy-hitters.
Staley’s team will need to remain focused on the final test of the regular season if the team wants to end the regular season on a high note.
