UConn and South Carolina are on a collision course in the playoffs, and two WNBA players have raised the stakes. With both programs making it, Allisha Gray and Breanna Stewart have made a wager that will leave one player uncomfortable, to say the least.
In a clip of the “Game Recognize Game” podcast via a Wednesday post by marchmadnesswbb on Instagram, Gray and Stewart made a public bet that, depending on which team wins, the loser will be forced to wear the other’s WNBA jersey.
“If South Carolina loses, I’ll wear a (Stewart) jersey for my tunnel fit,” Gray said.
“A UConn one?” Stewart asked.
“I’ll do a UConn one,” Gray said.
“And I want a South Carolina (jersey for me),” Stewart said, indicating which jersey she would wear if her team lost.
Before joining the WNBA, Gray played for the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2016. Stewart, meanwhile, played for the UConn Huskies from 2013 through the 2015 season.
As such, with both of their former colleges set to clash in the playoffs, both already had a reason to tune in. Now, they have their pride on the line in a way that will trickle into the WNBA as well.
Allisha Gray and Breanna Stewart’s Alma Maters Await Clash to Help Determine National Championship
Heading into the weekend, everything is on the line for the Gamecocks and Huskies. The winner of the two will punch the first of two tickets for the national championship game. Tipoff will take place at 7:00 pm EST on Friday.
The next game will tip off two and half hours later at 9:30 pm EST on Friday between the first-ranked UCLA Bruins and the first-ranked Texas Longhorns. The winner of the contest will meet the winner of the Gamecocks-Huskies contest.
Either way, the national championship will hold a battle between two first-ranked teams. Will Allisha Gray or Breanna Stewart’s former team survive the Final Four?
