As the Indiana Fever opened their training camp, Raven Johnson went viral in a hurry after a clip showed her seemingly taking a step back to avoid high-fiving Caitlin Clark. The two, of course, have a history dating back to their days in South Carolina and Iowa, respectively.

However, Johnson appeared to dispel the notion that she and Clark were not seeing eye-to-eye. During a media availability at the Fever training camp, the 10th overall pick in the 2026 WNBA draft gave a shoutout to the players who have rolled out the red carpet for her in Indianapolis.

“Sophie Cunningham, Caitlin Clark, Lexie Hull, Kelsey Mitchell…great people to be around.”

Learning of these comments from Raven Johnson, a number of fans took a shot at the naysayers who cast doubt that the rookie and the two-time WNBA All-Star would ever establish rapport.

“And y’all are worried about a missed handshake”

    “We love to see it”

    “Can’t love this enough!!!”

“Obviously.. that’s just how the fever operates.”

Still, other netizens remained wary of Johnson’s dynamic with Clark. Somehow, Johnson’s former South Carolina teammate Aliyah Boston caught a stray.

“Caitlin sleep with one eye open, you have Raven ‘Judas’ Johnson on your team.”

“Not mentioning her college teammate? Interesting…”

Ever since Clark waved off Johnson during their 2023 March Madness matchup, fans have buzzed about the alleged ill will between these two guards. It’s interesting, then, that Johnson went out of her way to include CC in her shoutout.

“A Freakin’ Dawg”: Sophie Cunningham Lauds Raven Johnson After Watching Rookie Up Close at Fever Training Camp

As for Caitlin Clark’s close friend Sophie Cunningham, Raven Johnson has already showcased intangibles that will be helpful to the Fever’s cause this year.

“Raven Johnson is a freakin’ dawg. We had our first day of training camp and I just love her,” Cunningham said on her “Show Me Something” podcast.

The common trait of hustle will bring Johnson and Cunningham closer as the Fever try to book another trip to the playoffs this season.
