Angel McCoughtry drew reactions on social media after commenting on Caitlin Clark. Speaking at the Fever’s media day on April 21, Clark called herself the best transition player in the WNBA.
McCoughtry reacted to her comments on Friday’s episode of her “Court Vision” podcast.
“I was a believer in letting people tell me that I was good at this or that,” McCoughtry said. “I didn’t want to say it because I didn’t want unnecessary pressure on myself. … If you’re going to do the Muhammad Ali, you have to back it up. … Her playing basketball is not the hardest thing she has to deal with, it’s living up to so many expectations.”
Some fans directed criticism at McCoughtry, leading to a back-and-forth between fans and the former WNBA player.
“Caitlin’s going to be fine. Talk soon! Lmao,” one fan wrote.
“There was not one bash. But I think we all have to learn how to respect people’s opinions without name-calling,” McCoughtry replied.
“Bruh, she’s a superstar. She doesn’t need the media playing it like she doesn’t know how to handle stardom. Let her shine,” another fan wrote.
“Interesting perspective,” said McCoughtry.
“Not the bench warmer telling someone not to have self-confidence,” a fan commented.
“And not once did anyone say that. Y’all love sulking in negative thinking,” McCoughtry replied.

McCoughtry was in the WNBA for 13 seasons, playing for the Atlanta Dream, Las Vegas Aces and Minnesota Timberwolves. She made six All-WNBA teams and seven All-Defensive teams, while also being a five-time All-Star.
The forward played 311 games for her career, averaging 18.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. She also won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA.
Angel McCoughtry called out Caitlin Clark’s on-court reactions during Team USA appearance
Caitlin Clark has been in several verbal spats with referees since her rookie year and has even been penalized for it with technical fouls.
Clark also exchanged words with officials while appearing for Team USA at the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in March. Speaking on her “Court Vision” podcast, McCoughtry called Clark out for her on-court reactions toward the referees.
“Caitlin, it was a bad call. But right now, you’re going to be on the Wheaties box. Who cares if you miss one? You’re wearing USA on your chest. It’s a bigger stage; the whole world is watching. Kind of be like, ‘Okay.’ Give a little shrug, and be like, ‘I’m gonna get this next one.'”
Clark and the Fever will tip off the 2026 WNBA season on Saturday, taking on the Dallas Wings.
