The Indiana Fever could add one of Caitlin Clark’s Team USA teammates to the roster. WNBA insider Roberta Rodrigues tweeted on Friday the latest free agency move the Fever could make:
“Monique Billings took a meeting with the New York Liberty but should sign with the Indiana Fever, I’m being told.”
Multiple reports emerged earlier on Friday that the Liberty had an interest in acquiring one of the Golden State Valkyries’ best players last season. Billings could snub New York, which looks to retain Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones, to play with Caitlin Clark.
Billings’ potential addition could bode well for the Fever. The 6-foot-4 forward developed impressive chemistry with Clark during the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in Puerto Rico. Billings and Clark often spent time together on the court, likely a crucial reason the Fever wanted to bring the versatile forward to Indiana.
Coach Stephanie White, an assistant on Team USA, also had a firsthand look at the undeniable chemistry between Clark and Billings.
Fever fans slammed GM Amber Cox on Thursday for the re-signing of the seldom-used Damiris Dantas. With Monique Billings’ possible arrival, team fans have a big reason to be excited.
Fans React to Caitlin Clark Potentially Teaming up With Monique Billings Next Season
Roberta Rodrigues’ tweet about Monique Billings potentially teaming up with Caitlin Clark caught social media attention. One fan reacted:
“She was very impressive at the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers last month. This is a great signing.”
Another fan added:
“CC and Billings had really good chemistry on Team USA, getting my hopes up.”
Another fan commented:
“I wanna believe this… I really do…”
One more fan commented:
“I would like to see Billings. – I think she’s amazing.”
One fan tweeted:
“Yaas, this is great news.”
Last season, Billings averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds. Mostly a backup center or forward, she will likely be part of the starting lineup, replacing Natasha Howard. The tandem of Billings and All-Star center Aliyah Boston has the makings of becoming one of the best in the WNBA.
If the Billings rumor comes true, Caitlin Clark will have another reliable inside operator to work with. Fever fans can’t hold back their excitement in seeing the two reunite in Indiana.
