Wings Fans Debate Choosing Awa Fam or Azzi Fudd With No. 1 Pick

For the second straight year, the Dallas Wings have landed the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft lottery and will select first in 2026. This gives them another chance to add a premier prospect alongside 2025 No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers.

When it comes to finding a partner for Paige Bueckers, the first name that comes to mind for many fans is UConn guard Azzi Fudd, who is also Bueckers’ girlfriend. However, following the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament, Wings fans have also shown growing interest in center Awa Fam.

Fam averaged 8.4 points and 4.2 rebounds during the tournament for Spain, which finished 3-2 to place third.

“I’m an Azzi fan. I couldn’t care less about the Dallas Wings. Put my girl in a good system with a great coach, that’s all I ask. She wants to be #1 so I wish that for her,” one said.

“Azzi. Dallas has big players already. We need 3pt shooters,” another said.

“They should go with Awa but Azzi is to good and her and Paige would be tough to pass up,” another added.

    Here are more takes.

The Wings have several areas that need improvement. During the 2025 regular season, they ranked in the bottom five in scoring, finished second to last in 3-point percentage, and were tied for the worst record in the league at 10-34.

The upcoming draft features a number of promising prospects, many of whom are currently competing in the NCAA. Here are the top collegiate players the Wings could pair with Paige Bueckers.

Awa Fam and Azzi Fudd Both Make Sense for the Wings

When discussing potential pairings with Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd is often the first name mentioned by fans. But beyond her relationship with the 2025 Rookie of the Year, Fudd is a proven scorer, averaging 17.7 points per game while shooting 44.6% from beyond the arc.

Her offensive production would give the Wings a much-needed boost, especially after the team shot just 30.4% from 3-point range in 2025.

Awa Fam presents a different profile as a center prospect. Viewed by some evaluators as the top international talent in the draft, she is praised for her mobility, soft hands, passing ability and pick-and-roll potential, along with a developing perimeter shot that could stretch WNBA defenses.

The Wings have needs across the roster, with one of their biggest gaps last season being at the center position.

No Wings player averaged even one block per game last season, although they did lead the league with 10.0 offensive rebounds per game. Adding Fam would provide a steady interior presence and allow Bueckers to form a potentially dangerous two-player combination with her.
