Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy and Caitlin Clark’s relationship seems to have taken a turn lately. Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, who reportedly had a good relationship with Rico Bosco of Barstool, did not like what Portnoy had said about his father and Iowa Hawkeyes’ former coach Fran McCaffery.
While discussing the Hawkeyes’ NCAA run, Portnoy said that the new coach, Ben McCollum, did more for the team than Fran did in 15 seasons in Iowa. That seemingly irked McCaffery, who confronted the Barstool Sports owner when Bosco and Portnoy were at a dinner session with McCaffery’s brother, Patrick, who is also a college basketball player.
Portnoy brought up this discussion on the latest episode of Barstool Live in Indiana and was seemingly mad at Bosco for the repercussions that followed the dinner. He explained:
“Caitlin Clark, we stay in touch, we talk, one of my favorite athletes. This guy had dinner with her boyfriend (Bosco clarified that it was the brother) and somebody on the phone related to this family, of McCaffery, she blocked me. Caitlin Clark has blocked me; she is now not responding to me. You put the phone in front of me, and I didn’t know who it was… because they are mad about Fran McCaffery. You cost me a Caitlin Clark relationship… You cost me my No. 1 relationship.”
Meanwhile, Bosco promised Portnoy that he would get him unblocked, as he enjoys a healthy relationship with the family. However, fans found a humorous tone to the whole ordeal, as one pointed out that the Fever superstar was “wife material” for standing up for her partner’s family.
One fan wrote:
“All this proves is that Caitlin is a loyal girlfriend, wife material.”
Another user hailed Clark for backing her alma mater, her former coach, and her boyfriend:
“Does he actually think CC was gonna let him discredit her love ones over a lie and do nothing. She is loyal to Iowa’s WBB, her family and close friends. Open your mouth to cause harm to any of them with a lie. Find yourself blocked.”
Antoher fan joked:
“I think she watched all your pizza reviews and decided they suck”
Another said:
“Or maybe she just isn’t cool like that with you like you imagined on your end?”
One more user suggested that she might unblock him later and wrote:
“She is not blocking you, Dave. She gave you time out.”

By his reaction, it’s clear that Portnoy valued his relationship with Clark a lot. Only time will tell if he will be able to mend his bond with her.
