“Is This a Joke?”: Fans React As A’ja Wilson’s Aces Waive Chennedy Carter

Las Vegas Aces guard Chennedy Carter was one of the key rotation pieces of coach Becky Hammon’s team in the 2026 WNBA season. For years, Carter has been in and out of the league. But ahead of this season, she may have found a home with the Aces given how she has played for them. In 13 games off the bench, Carter averaged 12.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 16.9 minutes per contest.

Unfortunately for Carter, her play was not sufficient for her to stay with the Aces. On Tuesday, Las Vegas announced that it was waiving Carter. There was no reason given for the move, but the team also announced that it is signing rookie sharpshooter Justine Pissott.

WNBA fans and spectators were left distraught over the Aces’ decision to waive Carter.

“Is this a joke???,” one fan captioned.

“Y’all not that good to be letting talent go….Better have a solid reason,” another user said.

“Sorry to see Chen go, I was really pulling for her. Becky must have her reasons and I won’t question that, it’s just sad ☹️,” another fan said with an emoji.

“I have no words. But I guess y’all know what you’re doing,” a fan shared.

Other users all over X/Twitter are alright with Carter no longer being a part of the Las Vegas Aces’ roster.

“She’s constant drama wherever she plays,” one user pointed out with a photo.

“This is the same story that happens wherever Carter goes. Can she ball? Yes. 100% But she is toxic to the team,” another user wrote.

“Yeah, I can totally see that happening. People always assume you’re okay just because you’re smiling,” a user posted.

Carter played her final game for the Aces on Monday against Stephanie White’s Indiana Fever on their home floor. In that game, Carter played just 15 minutes off the bench and finished with two rebounds, a steal and a block, which were far from her season averages.
Before the Aces, Carter played in the CBA for the Wuhan Shengfan following her 2024 Chicago Sky stint.

Reports are surfacing that Chennedy Carter has a history of clashing with teammates internally

In a report by women’s sports insider Robin Lundberg on Sports Illustrated, details of Chennedy Carter’s apparent locker room issues were provided. According to the report, Carter’s talent is not enough to overshadow the clashes she had with her teammates.
In 2021, Carter was suspended by the Atlanta Dream due to conduct detrimental to the team. She was also benched by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022 as disciplinary action.
In 2024, she had a chance to reshape her identity with the Chicago Sky. Despite finishing that season with the Sky, she was not signed for another year due to her contributions to a tumultuous locker room environment. Nevertheless, it is clear that teams view Carter as a talented asset but are not willing to take the risk on her attitude.
