During her college years, Caitlin Clark was a beloved figure in the Iowa community. Recently, however, the two-time WNBA All-Star has caught flak from some Hawkeyes fans. On top of this, Clark’s boyfriend has been on the receiving end of criticism as well.

On Clark’s end, Hawkeyes fans have perceived that she hasn’t been quite vocal in her support for the men’s team despite this squad’s improbable run to the Elite Eight this year. As for her significant other Connor McCaffery, he allegedly took exception to comments made by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy regarding his father Fran McCaffery.

Portnoy had recently claimed that current Hawkeyes coach Ben McCollum has done more in one season that his predecessor Fran McCaffery had accomplished in 14 years. This assessment did not sit well with Connor, and according to Portnoy, the younger McCaffery called him up to express his disappointment.

On social media, fans have taken shots at both Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery for these reasons, even going so far as to wander into the realm of speculation.
