What’s the Average WNBA Salary After New CBA Deal? Closer Look at Players’ Pay Following Historic Agreement

After a long tussle between the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association, the two parties have tentatively agreed on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. While they have not officially shared details about the new agreement, some sources have shared a projection of the new numbers.

The term sheet of the agreement will now be sent to the Board of Governors and players to vote. Officially, March 10 was the assigned date for the negotiations to be completed to avoid the delay of the 2026 season.

Polymarket Sports, a popular odds and predictions platform, shared the projection of new average salaries of WNBA players and wrote:

The WNBA and the WNBPA are finalizing an agreement to resume play, per @AnnieCostabile

The average player salary is projected to jump from $120,000 to $570,000 per year.”

A player’s average salary can go up to $5.7 million, which is more than 250% jump from the initial number. Players would be pleased with their financial growth, considering the number of eyeballs the league has grabbed in recent years.

WNBA Commissioner and WNBPA executive director share statements on new deal

The WNBA players’ association was happy to negotiate a profitable deal for players, as executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson said after the landmark agreement:

“I think this can be summed up in two words: Player empowerment … players coming to the table and standing on business and being reminded of the collective voice and of what it means to be in a union and the power of this union.”

The new agreement is bound to grow the sport and provide a well-deserved portion of resources to the players, who are the drivers of growth. WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said:

“We still need to finalize a formal term sheet, but the progress made in these discussions marks a transformative step forward for players and the league.”

Engelbert constantly highlighted that the league wanted players to make the most in the negotiations. All the details about the new deal have yet to be made public, but it’s surely great news for WNBA fans.
