Though the Las Vegas Aces have gotten off to a solid 4-2 start, the underwhelming performance of Jackie Young has been a lowlight in the early goings of this season. Now, her head coach has revealed some details shedding light on Young’s numbers thus far.

After the Aces lost 101-95 to the LA Sparks, Becky Hammon told reporters that Young isn’t in the best place at the moment.

“We know she’s playing with a heavy heart. Basketball-wise, she probably hasn’t gotten off to a start that she wants. However, we’re going to give her every support system that we possibly can.”

Becky Hammon, who has coached Jackie Young since joining Las Vegas in 2022, went on to share why the four-time All-Star played a season-low 19 minutes against the Sparks on Saturday night.

“The reason why she actually played a little less tonight is because she got in foul trouble, not anything else. I don’t care that she’s not scoring. She impacts the game in too many other ways.”

Though Young is averaging just 9.3 points per game in six outings, she is also contributing 4.7 rebounds and and 5.5 assists on a nightly basis. However, for the Aces to reach peak form and have the best chance of retaining the WNBA title, Young will eventually have to boost her scoring production.

“Playing With a Heavy Heart is Never Easy”: Jackie Young Posts Emotional Message Amidst Struggles on the Court

Becky Hammon’s comments bear the same somber tone as a post that Jackie Young uploaded this past week. In this message on Threads, Young credited her teammates for helping her pull through.

“playing with a heavy heart is never easy. S/O to my teammates for having my back”

It will perhaps just be a matter of time before Young, a three-time WNBA champion, gets back to her usual prolific self as a scorer.
