The Indiana Fever of Caitlin Clark racked up the seventh defeat of their season this Saturday, as they fell 113-96 to the Atlanta Dream. The defeat casts doubt on the team’s ability to challenge for the WNBA title this season and, overall, raises questions about whether Clark will ever be a WNBA champion.

One fan on social media said, not so fast, remember Michael Jordan’s struggles when he came to the NBA.

“It took Michael Jordan 4 head coaches and 7 years to win a championship. Hang in there, Caitlin. Still on track,” wrote the fan in question

He also pointed out some uncanny coincidences in both stars’ early careers.

Michael Jordan was selected No. 3 overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 NBA Draft. It wouldn’t be until 1991 that he would win the NBA title, and he wasn’t the league’s MVP until 1988.

Clark was Indiana’s top scorer during the encounter against Atlanta, racking up 26 points, with three rebounds and seven assists. She was somewhat inconsistent on defense, committing a moderate three fouls against the Dream.

The Fever were competitive all through the third quarter, having entered halftime 59-56 up.

Clark spoke with the press in the game’s aftermath. According to her, the Indiana Fever played a good first half, but then they fell into the bad habit of causing fouls, which cost them the game:

“What we did well in the first half was play in transition, spray, find open people. Um, and then it’s really hard to do that when all we do is foul, and they score,” Clark said.

She also recognized her part in the defeat. Caitlin Clark was responsible for seven of the 19 turnovers Indiana had in the game:

“We have to take care of the ball better, and that starts with me,”

Indiana suffered a similar fate when fouls cost them a game against the New York Liberty a couple of weeks ago.

The Fever’s next game is against the Phoenix Mercury on Monday at 8 pm ET, at home in Indianapolis.
