“This Nonstop Damsel in Distress Narrative Is Embarrassing”: Jemele Hill Fires Back After Fan Labels Her the ‘Ring Leader’ Against Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark has been at the center of the WNBA conversation this season, be it for her constant tussles with officials or her shooting woes. While a section of fans and analysts believe that her on-court antics have harmed the team, others have backed her through a difficult phase in the league.

Jemele Hill has also been one of the voices in the debate, and she clarified her stance to a fan on social media.

A fan on Threads called out the analyst for her criticism of Clark, calling her the “ringleader” of the conversations against the Indiana Fever guard:

“i swear you all got ‘a thing’ against caitlin clark. @jemelehill is y’alls ring leader. i know the she got her faults but god damn you try to say something positive about her or controversial and you all lose your minds. she is one of the futures and faces of the league. special treatment will always be there. shit BRON is still a diva.”

The analyst did not let the comment slide:

“I’ve called her the most impactful player of this generation, predicted last year before she got hurt that she would win the MVP, and said she has the potential to be a great player in the W for a long time. Yes, stars get special treatment but this nonstop damsel in distress narrative is embarrassing and an insult to her, most importantly. Stop laying your jackets down over the puddle for her. I promise she doesn’t need it.”

There have been varied opinions about whether Clark should receive special treatment from the league and officials. For now, the guard will focus on her health and will look to get back into her groove as soon as possible.

Caitlin Clark was lackluster in her return to the Fever after missing a couple of games. The Indiana Fever won both of games, sparking conversations about her value to the team and Indiana coach Stephanie White’s style of running the offense.

The Fever’s loss after Clark returned only intensified the arguments against her. She scored nine points in 16 minutes, shooting 4-for-14, as the team is seemingly limiting her minutes. It’s safe to say that she is still far from comfortable shooting the ball.
