Natasha Cloud was without a team since the free agency period, but has landed an offer with the Chicago Sky before the regular season kicks off on May 8. The decision follows the franchise’s earlier call to waive off Hailey Van Lith, whom the Sky drafted last season. Cloud has reportedly signed a one-year, $555,000 deal with the team. And she expressed her feelings on social media.
The veteran guard played last season with the New York Liberty and averaged 10.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.2 steals. She played almost her entire career with the Washington Mystics and even won the 2019 WNBA championship with the franchise. Even though she is one of the best two-way guards in the league, she did not see any offers during the free agency period.
After the update about her deal was made official on social media, Cloud shared her feelings in a fired-up message on her Instagram story and wrote:
“They can’t starve who God feeding
Chiiiiiiiiiicityyyy”

The decision suggests that the franchise is moving towards a veteran-led organization and cutting its young pieces. Cloud’s addition will bring the leadership that the team needs right now. Even though some believed that the veteran guard’s exit from the Liberty was due to her unapologetic behavior off the court, team officials clarified that was not true.
Liberty General Manager clarifies stance on Natasha Cloud
Natasha Cloud has made several statements against the US government and its decisions on social media, leading to divided opinions. The New York Liberty’s General Manager, Jonathan Kolb, shared the team’s official stance after they decided not to retain Natasha Cloud during free agency. Kolb stated:
“One of the ones that I’m most proud of is my relationship with Natasha. What she stands for is what I stand for. I believe in speaking up for the voiceless. There is no better embodiment of that than Natasha Cloud, and she puts her life on the line every single day with saying what she believes. So I just want to get that out.”
GM stated that the Liberty targeted certain pieces in free agency, and that’s why they could not offer Cloud a deal. Whatever the reason, she has now found a new home and will look forward to leading the Sky to a better season this time after the team finished at the bottom of the table last year.
