“Should Be The New WNBA Logo”: Ian Karmel Hilariously Vouches For Sophie Cunningham’s Viral Pointing Gesture To Earn Major Recognition

Sophie Cunningham’s popular finger-pointing WNBA moment has eventually reached television. The Indiana Fever and the Phoenix Mercury had a fiery couple of matchups last month that also produced a viral altercation between Cunningham and DeWanna Bonner. The moment became one of the most famous memes on the internet, and popular comedian and writer Ian Karmel took it up a notch.

Cunningham appeared on FIFA World Cup on FOX After Hours with James Corden on Tuesday, where she addressed the viral moment and narrated the story behind it. Actor and host Corden validated the forward’s action, saying, “I love it so much.” However, Karmel gave the ultimate respect and recognition to the gesture, saying:

“First of all I think this should be the new WNBA logo.”

Cunningham did not let the moment slide either, as she claimed that she gets “a little sassy sometimes.” Though it was just another altercation in the league, the moment became a viral phenomenon around the world and caught the attention of several athletes and popular personalities.

“They Show Up For Us,” Sophie Cunningham Addresses Fans’ Love For The Fever

Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever registered another win against the Las Vegas Aces, 84-68, though Caitlin Clark was out of the roster. During the game, the forward joined the broadcast from the team’s bench and highlighted the issues with the team.

While she said that the Fever needed to be more consistent and improve offensive spacing through screens so that players get open shots, Cunningham also talked about the love the team gets wherever they play. She said:

“I think we have the best fans in the W, worldwide, I really think wherever we go its a home game, so we just try to put on, work hard, play hard, and we just got to work on out consistency. They show up for us and we need to show up for them.”

Sophie Cunningham led the bench in the game, with nine points in 21 minutes. Her viral moment would only add to the team’s popularity across the nation. For now, fans wait for the superstar Clark to return to the team and win games.
