Alyssa Thomas seemingly driving her fist into Caitlin Clark’s throat during an off-ball scramble in the Fever’s matchup vs. the Phoenix has led to a social media storm with several analysts putting out controversial opinions.
However, Courtside Club host Rachel DeMita has taken a different approach to the situation. DeMita questioned the Phoenix star for not making a statement of her own during the entire saga, to prove her innocence by denying the various allegations against her.
DeMita said:
“Like, if you’re a player out there and you really didn’t mean to do it, or maybe she didn’t even realize she did it in the moment, but later on she sees the footage, just come out and be like, “Yeah, my bad. I was going for the ball. We kind of got into it. Whatever it is.
“And I hope Caitlin’s good. I didn’t mean that. That wasn’t my intention at all. I feel like my family and friends and the people who know me best know that that’s never my intention to hurt someone.” (@14:17)
While Thomas served the one-game suspension handed to her by the WNBA, she has not commented on the incident.
DeMita also pointed out the lack of support for Caitlin Clark in the situation, expressing concern for the Indiana star’s mental health and having to deal with the constant whirlwind of opinions at just 24 years of age.
“But the biggest point that I’m getting back to is, like, we haven’t really had many people checking on Caitlin. And I brought this up in my last episode. I am worried about her mental [health].”
The Flagrant 2 Foul saga is not the only incident Clark has faced this season; she is also dealing with a nagging back injury, which has sidelined her for at least a week, as announced by the team.
Clark was also part of a heated exchange with head coach Stephanie White during their matchup against Portland. During a timeout, Clark appeared to be frustrated on the bench before exchanging words with White. She was eventually subbed out of the game.
Emmanuel Acho Faces Backlash For Caitlin Clark Statement
Emmanuel Acho’s bold claim against the former Iowa superstar drew massive backlash from fans, as the former NFL standout claimed that the WNBA simply did not need Caitlin Clark anymore.
Acho pointed out that while Clark has done a great job of bringing eyeballs to the league, she has proven to be more of a distraction than an additive.
Former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines fired back at Acho, claiming it was Clark who would be better off without the WNBA; however, the league would suffer in her absence. Gaines said:
“The league wouldn’t be better off without Caitlin Clark, but she would be better off without the league. Caitlin Clark is the best thing to ever happen to the WNBA.”
While there is no set timeline for Clark’s return, the Indiana sharpshooter is expected to return to action against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.
