The Indiana Fever added veteran free agent guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough to the supporting cast around Caitlin Clark on Wednesday. An X site that highlights Clark tweeted that the Fever now have eight guards, three forwards and a center heading into training camp.
The number of guards on the roster prompted fans to react. One fan wrote:
“Please trade @AmberLCox and @StephanieWhite back where they came from.”
Another fan added:
“Okay, I was cool with the Raven pick but we GOTTA relax with all these guard pickups, man.”
One more fan continued:
“Almost seems like Fever upper brass and coach are preparing to trade CC one her rookie contract is done.”
Another fan commented:
“I’m not understanding the 8 guards in camp approach. Is there a strategy here?”
One fan tweeted:
“They hate her so much. Pathetic.”
The Fever brought back Kelsey Mitchell, Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull. Indiana GM Amber Cox signed Tyasha Harris and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough in free agency. By drafting Raven Johnson (No. 10) and Jessica Timmons (No. 40), the Fever added two more guards to the rotation. With Caitlin Clark in the mix, coach Stephanie White has eight guards to look at before training camp.
Last season, the Fever’s guard depth was decimated by injuries. Clark, Cunningham, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald and even Mitchell couldn’t finish the season due to injuries. Cox might be loading up on perimeter talent in case the injury bug hounds them again.
Stephanie White embraced a three-guard lineup last season to surround Natasha Howard and All-Star center Aliyah Boston with shooters. White could replicate the same strategy in 2026.
Monique Billings will take over Howard’s spot while Boston will continue to patrol the middle. Clark and Mitchell will be joined by another guard based on matchups. Cunningham and Hull are strong candidates to start for Indiana.
Fever Prioritized Continuity and Familiarity Over Splashy Signings To Build Around Caitlin Clark
Familiarity and Continuity were the themes used by the Indiana Fever to build around Caitlin Clark. Kelsey Mitchell, Sophie Cunningham, Lexie Hull and Damiris Dantas have all played with Clark before. Monique Billings developed superb chemistry with the superstar point guard in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers last month in Puerto Rico. Billings and Mitchell have also played together in the Unrivaled.
Tyasha Harris played for two seasons under coach Stephanie White in Connecticut, making her an unsurprising addition to the roster. Raven Johnson played alongside Aliyah Boston in South Carolina and played against Clark.
The Fever are banking on familiarity and continuity to help Caitlin Clark carry the team to a championship.
