“They Should Be Kissing The Ground She Walks On”: Phoenix Fans Side With Caitlin Clark In Long-Drawn Saga Against Alyssa Thomas

Ahead of Thursday’s Indiana Fever game against the Mercury, OutKick interviewed several Phoenix fans outside the arena to gauge public opinion on the ongoing discussion surrounding Clark’s physical treatment. Alyssa Thomas received a Flagrant 2 foul and a one-game suspension following throat contact with Clark during the teams’ June 24 game.

Many fans voiced strong support for the Fever guard, with several suggesting Clark has become the target of unnecessary physical play.

“They should be kissing the ground she walks on,” one fan said.

When the interviewer asked, “Why do you think she’s getting targeted?”

One fan bluntly said, “I think a lot of that just comes with jealousy.”

Another fan echoed a similar sentiment, while acknowledging that star players often receive extra attention, saying: “She doesn’t deserve what she’s getting, but she talks a lot of stuff too.”

“Any star, if you’re not getting that treatment, then you’re not a star,” added another.

Others interviewed offered more personal opinions, with some attributing the criticism Clark receives to factors beyond the game. These remarks reflect the views of individual fans and not any confirmed findings.

Stephanie White Avoids Political Discussion As Fever Win Without Caitlin Clark

Clark wasn’t able to play the Phoenix game due to her back injury.

Before tipoff, Indiana head coach Stephanie White was asked about a letter sent by 11 Republican members of Congress to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert. The lawmakers raised concerns about Clark’s treatment on the court and suggested the physical play directed toward her should receive greater scrutiny.

White declined to engage in the political discussion altogether.

“Our team made a statement yesterday, so you can find that statement,” White said before adding that the organization remains focused on matters it can control.

“Again, that’s not something we can control. We’re not affiliated with those groups. We try to keep the main thing the main thing and focus on the things we can control.”

The Fever had already clarified that neither Clark nor the organization had any involvement with the congressional group behind the letter.

While Clark wasn’t able to participate in the game, Indiana secured a 92-89 victory with Kelsey Mitchell’s 29-point performance.

Between fan reactions, political attention, and the fallout from the Alyssa Thomas incident, the Fever star continues to dominate headlines even when she is not on the court.
