Paige Bueckers is one of the rising stars in the WNBA right now. After a tremendous individual rookie season last year, Bueckers is already one of the leaders in that Dallas Wings’ squad. Head coach Jose Fernandez trusts Bueckers to be the next big thing for the Wings as well as WNBA.
Bueckers is praised for her scoring ability, basketball IQ, and efficiency. Because of her attributes she is often compared with some basketball greats. Many think that she has a smooth game like NBA stars Kyrie Irving or probably Kevin Durant. Meanwhile from the WNBA, she draws comparisons with Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird for the same reasons.
Dallas Wings’ new veteran addition Sug Sutton admitted that she sees Diana Taurasi in Paige Bueckers.
“Yeah, just their personality, how they are as a leader. I see DT so much in Paige and it’s amazing to be able to play with DT and see how she was, what she did for our game. And I was there for her 10k. And that was an amazing experience. Just to see greatness, to be her teammate. She expected greatness out of everybody. I think that was the biggest thing being her teammate. And Paige is the same way. I am super excited to be able to learn from her, to know about her personality more,” Sutton said, who was teammates with Taurasi on the Phoenix Mercury for 2023 and 2024 season.
“You can see on social media how good she is. I came here today, she’s the same person. So absolutely excited to get to know her, get to know the whole team. But you know, her comparison to DT is second to none. She reminds me so much of DT, just her game and her personality and how she carries herself on the floor. I think there’s so much greatness that that’s going to come out of what Paige does for this game. I am super excited to be a part of it and be her teammate,” she added.
Sug Sutton’s contract with Paige Bueckers’ Wings
Wings added veteran guard Sug Sutton for the remainder of this season on June 14. Wings waived rookie JJ Quinerly in order to complete the signing. Sutton’s exact salary would differ based on the exact number of days she would be with the team.
The Portland Fire selected Sug Sutton in the April expansion draft. However, they waived her in May. The veteran has played 6 seasons in the league so far. She will bring some depth on the bench as well as a lot of experience to a talented Dallas Wings roster.
