On Monday, Ryan Clark made headlines when he was informed of his firing midway through ESPN’s “NFL Live” show. Reportedly, the network had pulled Clark from the broadcast before he could find out about his dismissal from other outlets.
As to why the former Super Bowl champion was let go by ESPN, OutKick reporter Jon Root came up with a long list of offenses supposedly committed by Clark over the years.
“Here are some of the dumbest things he said/insinuated while at ESPN: Jaden Ivey spews ‘hateful & evil Christianity’ because he’s against gay marriage & Pride Nights…RGIII can’t talk about Angel Reese because his wife is white…Promoted the idea that the millions of Caitlin Clark fans that followed her to the WNBA were racists”
Though Root clearly has no love lost for Clark’s takes during his ESPN stint, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic cited a September 2025 on-air squabble as the moment when ESPN’s dissatisfaction with him “peaked.”
According to Marchand, the network was not thrilled with an argument that Clark had with commentator Peter Schrager on the morning show “Get Up.” During this argument, Clark slammed Schrager’s comments about Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb by saying, “That’s the non-player in you.”
Clark went on to publicly apologize to Schrager, but clearly, the damage to his standing within the network was done.
Emmanuel Acho Reacts to “Wild” Firing of Ryan Clark Midway Through an ESPN Broadcast
For what it’s worth, analyst Emmanuel Acho has expressed his astonishment at ESPN’s decision to fire Ryan Clark in an unceremonious manner.
The “Speakeasy” podcast host did not mince words at all as he slammed the higher ups at Clark’s former network.
“Firing a man during his show that he’s helped bring an Emmy Award to, is wild…More often than not, executives are cowards. Former athletes, we’re used to tough information. Just tell it to us!”
Like Clark, Acho played in the NFL before transitioning into his role as a media personality.
