Odyssey Sims and the Dallas Wings went into the game against the LA Sparks on a three-game winning streak. The Wings walked away with a thrilling 104-96 win, their second-highest scoring performance of the season.
The Wings suffered a setback early in the game. Sims, who had spent only five minutes on the floor after coming off the bench, went down with a leg injury.
Sims’ teammates and medical and coaching staff immediately surrounded her, using towels to cover her up. She had to be put in a wheelchair and escorted off the floor. She had only one rebound in the game at the time of her injury.
The injury looked devastating. Sims didn’t return for the rest of the game, which made it clear that it was a serious injury. So far, there hasn’t been an update on whether the 33-year-old will be available for the Tuesday game against the Minnesota Lynx.
Based on how she went down, needed immediate medical support, and had to leave the floor on a wheelchair, it wouldn’t be shocking if Sims misses the next few games for the Wings.
In her absence, the Wings got the job done. Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale, and Jessica Shepard dominated the game. Bueckers had 18 points, shooting 7 of 14 from the field, with 3 rebounds, 14 assists, and a steal.
Ogunbowale led the game in scoring with 30 points, shooting 10 of 21 from the field, 6 of 11 from the three-point line, with six rebounds and six assists. Shepard also had a double-double, 22 points, shot 9 of 13, and had 15 rebounds with five assists and two steals.
Odyssey Sims Said the Wings Don’t Need to Change Anything
The Dallas Wings were on a rough stretch last month, and their head coach, Jose Fernandez, called out the team during a press conference. Fernandez stated that there was selfishness inside the locker room and told his players to focus on playing as a team and winning games.
The Wings now lead the WNBA in assists per game at 23.4. Before the matchup against the LA Sparks, Sims said that the team doesn’t need to change anything at this point.
“I don’t think we need to change anything. Continue to do what we’ve been doing, get out and run,” she said. “Obviously, we’re the best when we’re out in transition, and most importantly, have fun with it.”
Later, Fernandez echoed the same sentiment and praised the team for playing great on both ends.
