NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Pens Heartfelt Message For Natasha Cloud, WNBPA After Historic CBA Deal

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined other elected officials in throwing their support behind the WNBPA during its contentious Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) talks with the WNBA. Mamdani and other legislators sent a signed document in October to the league to show their solidarity with the players.

Mamdani’s efforts helped as the players’ union and the league eventually found common ground on major issues. On Tuesday, the WNBA Board of Governors ratified the CBA, a seven-year deal that ends in 2032.

The Democrat shared a message on X on Thursday to highlight the WNBPA’s accomplishment:

“One person in this photo deserves a 20% WNBA revenue share, and it’s not me. Congratulations to @TheWNBPA on their historic labor agreement.”

The player in the photo was Natasha Cloud, an avid supporter of Zohran Mamdani. Cloud often tweeted about Mamdani before and after winning the New York City mayoral election. In late June 2025, via an interview with ClutchPoints, the combo guard said that Mamdani’s victory “restored my hope in humanity.”

Revenue sharing is perhaps the biggest win for the WNBPA in the new CBA. From about 9 percent in the previous agreement, it jumped to 20 percent for the duration of the new deal.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his happiness that Natasha Cloud and the players will get a significant increase in the revenue shares.

Zohran Mamdani’s tweet congratulating Natasha Cloud and the players’ union went viral, earning reactions from fans. One fan wrote:

“Now the WNBA will lose $48 million instead of $40 million.”

    Another fan added:

“This isn’t just about percentages, it’s about recognition, respect, the long fight for fair compensation. Finally moving in the right direction.”

    One more fan continued:

“Why are you doing this fluff crap instead of fixing the many, many problems of NYC?”

    Another fan commented:

“Congrats to the players. More eyeballs will come with time.”

    One fan tweeted:

“WNBA just got a 20% revenue share. Bold move for a league whose total revenue could barely buy one Caitlin Clark endorsement deal.”

During the CBA discussions, the players wanted the league to recognize their value and impact on the business. Mamdani helped shine the spotlight on them with his support.

However, fans were divided on Mamdani’s support of the players. While some gave him props, others couldn’t resist trolling him.
