The New York Liberty have received a massive boost after the latest injury updates on Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally ahead of Thursday’s clash against the Golden State Valkyries. The duo, yet to make its season debut, is questionable to return to action.
Ionescu played in the preseason but rolled her ankle in the May 3 matchup against the Connecticut Sun. She was ruled out for the rest of the preseason and the regular season opener and given a two-week timeline. However, Ionsecu has taken longer than that to return, missing four days over her initial two-week timeline.
It was a significant injury, but Ionescu seems to have recovered and is likely going to suit up. She was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. For now, the Liberty have announced that she will be a game-time decision.
Meanwhile, Sabally has been out since the start of preseason due to an illness. It was revealed later that she would miss the regular-season opener due to a cyst. Sabally was day-to-day and can finally make her franchise debut for the Liberty on Thursday. New York has listed her on the injury report, citing return to competition conditioning.
Satou Sabally was also a full participant in practice so she could play. The marquee free agent signing is officially a game-time decision to make her anticipated return alongside Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu.
