Napheesa Collier has made her return after missing around 300 days due to ankle surgeries. She suffered a grade 2 tear of three ligaments and the shin muscle on her left leg during Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals against the Phoenix Mercury.
In her much-awaited comeback, she scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds versus the Seattle Storm on Thursday. The Lynx are already flying high thanks to their explosive duo of Olivia Miles and Kayla McBride.
After the WNBA All-Star break, the Lynx stars appeared in front of the media before their game against the Toronto Tempo. Reporters noticed that McBride wasn’t wearing her usual Kobe signature shoes. She generally wears Nike Kobe 6 Protro or the Nike Kobe 4 Protro. Instead, she wore Collier’s latest Nike Jordan Heir Series 2 “Queen Phee.” She laughed and assured them that she is sticking to her usual kicks.
“No, no, no, no, I am going to stay where I am at. But I am very excited to rep Phee,” she said.
“I think it’s so cool to me. I told her I want her to sign it and I’ll keep it forever. But for someone who’s spent so much time on building her own shoe of Jordan is really cool. Maybe not on court, but off court for sure,” she said.
McBride smiled as she explained her loyalty to the Kobe collection. Collier also smiled.
Napheesa Collier sends a grateful message to the Lynx fans
As the veteran has returned from injury, it will be crucial for the Lynx how they utilize their star player. Coach Cheryl Reeve will have to be careful with her game time and ease her into full health.
One major upside for Collier would be the position the Lynx are in. Rookie Miles and veteran McBride have taken the charge, leading the Lynx to the top of the WNBA standings.
Collier addressed the fans for the remainder of the season and said, “I would just say thank you, coming from me, I mean obviously this has been such a long journey but knowing they’ve supported me through it all.”
Collier called the Lynx fans the best fans in the world.
