Even after being traded from the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese continues to face criticism tied to her time with the team. The latest comments came from Courtney Vandersloot, who addressed the situation following Reese’s controversial remarks late in the 2025 season.
Toward the end of that season, Reese went on a public rant where she criticized the front office, the coaching staff, and the team’s inability to compete at a high level. Her comments didn’t sit well with many, and tensions only grew as Sky fans began chanting for general manager Jeff Pagliocca to be fired.
Now, with Reese no longer on the roster, Vandersloot is hoping the team can move forward. The veteran guard made it clear that the franchise was only receiving unwanted attention because of Reese.
“Listen, this kind of stuff happens — I wouldn’t say frequently — but it happens in sports,” Vandersloot said. “It’s not unheard of. We were just under a microscope because of Angel and her following. It just is what it is.”
Her comments were meant to close that chapter, but they didn’t land that way with everyone. Some of Reese’s fans took it as a subtle jab and quickly clapped back at Vandersloot on social media.
“Sloot is jealous and washed. She got jealous because Angel was getting attention. Go retire granny,” @JaelynOfomie said.
“That microscope is the reason they not playing outside a planet fitness parking lot. They need to take the microphone away from Sloots mouth,” @Scene1891 wrote.
“Let’s not forget ANGEL REESE helped Chicago Sky turn a profit for THE FIRST TIME IN FRANCHISE HISTORY her rookie season,” @Ciara1285045 said.
“Sloot….you’re damage goods!!! Angel hasn’t mentioned your old *ss!! Here you go…keep bringing her name up because you’re salty that you’re an old guard getting paid over 1/2 millions coming off the bench to run with those young rookies. Liberty knew you was washed!!!” @sexychar72 said.
“I’ve been very quiet about the Sloot stuff bc I didn’t gaf but this is some loser ass behavior coming from her,” @Shaibae175661 said.
Angel Reese thanked Chicago fans following move to Atlanta
Angel Reese’s two seasons with the Chicago Sky may not have brought much team success, but she still made a strong impact. More importantly, she built a genuine connection with the fans.
As she prepares for her next chapter in Atlanta, Reese took a moment to show her appreciation and leave Chicago on a heartfelt note.
“To the city of Chicago, you showed me real love from day one,” Reese said in an Instagram video. “Thank you, Chicago. Always Chi-Town Barbie.”
During the two seasons, Reese put up 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, receiving All-Star nods in both years.
