After a sensational college career, Caitlin Clark came into the WNBA with an incredible amount of hype. Now in her third year as a pro, Clark isn’t afraid to admit that she has a long way to go before she reaches her own lofty standards.
In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, the Indiana Fever star rated herself a 6 out of 10 as far as realizing her potential in the league. When Andrews asked if her opponents should feel “scared” that her self-assessment hasn’t even peaked yet, Clark gave a sheepish smile and said:
“I guess. We’ll have to see. [3:05]”
Clark also acknowledged that injuries kept her from hitting her stride last season, when she played just 13 games for the Fever and missed the entirety of their playoff run. CC added that, at 24 years old, she knows that she has “so much room to improve.”
As far as improvement is concerned, Clark’s numbers are showing that she has bounced back from an underwhelming sophomore season. This early in the 2026 campaign, Clark has already played 14 games and achieved an uptick in her scoring, field goal percentage, and 3-point shooting compared to last year.
Clark has played in all but one game on the Fever’s regular-season schedule thus far, and Indiana has pulled off a 9-6 start. At the moment, Clark’s squad is caught in a logjam with the Dallas Wings (9-6) and the Golden State Valkyries (10-6), who are at No. 6 and No. 5 in the standings, respectively.
If Clark does reach a higher gear this season, her brilliance on the court could jumpstart the Fever’s ascent through the standings.
Jason Whitlock Slams Caitlin Clark for Having “No Emotional Control” and Neglecting Defense
Meanwhile, analyst Jason Whitlock was more critical, taking a shot at Caitlin Clark on his “Fearless” show after the Fever’s 108-101 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Thursday.
“They’re a bad defensive team because they have no leadership on the defensive end. Because their supposed leader Caitlin Clark doesn’t care about defense. And their supposed leader has no emotional control.” [0:04]
Whitlock went on to compare Clark to her longtime nemesis Angel Reese, saying that the Dream forward has displayed more maturity this season than CC.
