Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin extended their condolences to San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon on Sunday. Kittle went down during the second quarter of that game after his leg seemed to give out.
The 49ers won that game against the Philadelphia Eagles, 23-19, but lost Kittle in the Wild Card Round. After learning about his injury, Kittle shared a photo of himself on Instagram, saying:
“Football sucks sometimes. But I love it. I love these guys and this team. Heartbroken, but have felt so much love and support from everyone reaching out. I’ll be good. Thank you. We aren’t done yet! Also, when your team owner is the first person to meet you in the locker room, you know you’re in a special place. Cheers, all my love.”
Joining others in showing their support, Iowa Hawkeyes alums Martin and Clark left a message in the comments section of Kittle’s post.
“Wishing for a speedy recovery,” Martin wrote.
“You’re gonna be back better than ever! We are proud of you,” Clark wrote.
With Kittle’s season over, Luke Farrell or Jake Tonges will be expected to step into his place.
Kate Martin discusses her Unrivaled pitch to Caitlin Clark
Kate Martin was at the 2024 WNBA draft to support her Hawkeyes teammate Caitlin Clark. Many were surprised after she was drafted in the second round. She has now put together two solid seasons with the Las Vegas Aces and the Golden State Valkyries.
While speaking to Sports Illustrated on Wednesday, Martin shared how she would pitch the idea of joining Unrivaled to her former teammate, citing the weather in Miami.
“I think my recruiting pitch would be, ‘Come be in the warm weather!’ Like, Miami, it’s lovely here. We can go to the beach on the off days, chill, and have fun with it, too. I think that’s what this league is all about. It’s very serious, it’s player-driven. But it’s also a lot of fun… So I feel like it speaks for itself,” she said.
Martin is playing for the Breeze BC this season, averaging 7.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in three games. She will be back in action on Saturday against Vinyl BC.
