WNBA commentator Renee Montgomery has gained infamy for picking a fight with certain Caitlin Clark fans that she considers to be “racist, sexist, and violent with their words.” In turn, some netizens have accused her of having a strong dislike for Clark herself.

As Montgomery covered the Fever’s road game against the LA Sparks on Wednesday, some fans believed that she was sneaking in anti-CC sentiments on the broadcast.

“Renee Montgomery shouldn’t be covering games when she has disdain for players taking part in it. God forbid she say anything complementary about Clark but she sure gets loud and enthusiastic when showing her getting blocked. wtf was that”

“Renee Montgomery saying Kelsey is number one on the scouting report? Then why is she getting open looks when CC gets double teamed. This is no diss on KM. She’s balling. Be Renee is a certifiable hater.”

“Renee Montgomery should not be on TV. She said Kelsey Mitchell was number one on the scouting report and repeated it to try to make a point lol you can say it all you want we don’t care”

“Elle Duncan and Renee Montgomery. Mute.”

“She is seriously a loud mouth bigot”

    “I mute the halftime bs”

Since Caitlin Clark entered the league, her fanbase has been steadfast in defending her from all sorts of critics. Whether or not Montgomery intended to throw shade at the Fever star, she found herself on the receiving end of CC fans’ vitriol.

“You Just Become Hyper Cautious”: Caitlin Clark Opens Up on Making Comeback From Injuries

On the evening of the Fever-Sparks clash, ESPN’s Kendra Andrews tweeted a quote from Caitlin Clark concerning her comeback from injuries.

“You just become hyper cautious to certain things…When my back tightened up I think I almost got confidence from that, because I came back in and I played eight more minutes so, and I felt great the last eight minutes…But it’s going to take me a little bit to, like, really get over this mental hurdle of, like, trusting my body.”

Last year, Clark was limited to 13 regular season games as injuries got the better of her. During the Fever’s 2026 season opener against the Dallas Wings, there were concerns that Clark’s back was bothering her too much. Still, Fever fans are hopeful that CC will suit up more consistently this season.
