Ever since the Dallas Wings took Azzi Fudd as the no. 1 pick of this year’s WNBA draft, fans have been buzzing about the real score on her relationship with Paige Bueckers. Things came to a head when the Wings PR reporter stepped in on Fudd’s behalf when a reporter asked about her relationship with Bueckers during her introductory press conference.
When the Wings held their media day this week, Bueckers took it upon herself to respond to the questions that have come up, as well as preempt the questions that had yet to be asked.
“There is something I wanted to address, and I only plan on addressing it once…Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi’s personal relationship is nobody’s business but our own. What we choose to share is completely up to us.”
Paige Bueckers, who was drafted first overall back in the 2025 WNBA draft, made it clear that she and Fudd would no longer be answering questions that focused on their personal relationship rather than their dynamic on the court.
This sentiment, however, didn’t sit well with some fans, who wanted to remind Bueckers that she was a public figure after all.
“Unfortunately that’s not how it works Paige.”
“Isn’t this what comes with being a professional athlete especially when you date another famous athlete? You got Bam/A’ja, Ben/Trinity, Myles/Chloe, and Paul/Olivia. They didn’t seem to mind addressing their relationships and at times were enthusiastic speaking of their SO.”

Meanwhile, other netizens were more supportive of Bueckers and Fudd.
“Good for her. Not a WNBA fan but respect Paige’s poise and professionalism”

There’s no guarantee, of course, that members of the media will cease asking questions about Bueckers and Fudd off the court as the WNBA season progresses. For what it’s worth, Bueckers also mentioned that she and Fudd have had many “reps” dealing with this level of scrutiny.
Reporter Praises Paige Bueckers for Taking Stand on Media Questions About Personal Relationships
Some members of the media have gone out of their way to praise Bueckers for making her voice heard on all the personal questions. For one, award-winning journalist Kelsey Nicole Nelson has tweeted positive words for the Wings star.
“I appreciate Paige Bueckers saying that quiet part out loud. She knows the relationship with her and Azzi with be questioned.”
Nelson, however, reminded Bueckers and “anyone in the public eye” that their personal endeavors will indeed be “scrutinized” to no end.
